About 20 minutes into the stage (1st 50k = rolling) early break forms; includes Sella (AND), Ligthart (VCD), Berard (ALM), Mourey [7-time cyclocross nat’l champ] and Le bon (FDJ), Minguez and Tamouridis (EUS), Dockx (LTB);
Dockx drops back, leaving 7 leaders;
The break has -1:35 to the Peloton after 21k;
-202k: After 42km of racing the lead grows to 7:40;
-170k: brk at -6:50
KAT and GRS driving the pace at the front of the Peloton;
-99k ldrs at -3:50

Sella has been dropped. He was the highest on GC (in 48th place at +2:39), so a potential threat to the break…

Looks like the remains of the break have all been picked up, as Minguez motors on alone into the rain;
-44.2k Dirk Bellemakers launches out of the pack, probably in pursuit of mt pts at the summit;
The peloton have Minguez in their sights only :10 ahead;
 *Bellemakers scooped up on a short steep stretch through town;
*-42.1k: Peloton sweep up Minguez about 2.5k from the summit; Gruppo compatto;
-41.2k Gretsch attacks into the thick, dark cloud at the 500m-high hilltop;
Behind Gretsch, Pirazzi (BAR) leaps out and bridges up to Gretsch at about -40k;

Visconti grabs the 3rd spot at the KOM where it is pouring rain (No helicopter footage);
-36k: mech. NIBALI, gets Agnoli’s bike and chases the Pel full-speed down the wet hill;
-34k attack: Duque (COL); descending well down the gradually drying twisting road; at -30k he has about :10 on chasers; then he sits up at -29.5k;
Gretsch and Willems out front now;
-26k: Weening wheel change;
Riders out of the rain for now; still pouring at the finish;

Approaching final climb, Gretsch and Willems still have a lead;
